Selective medium for the detection of B. cepacia complex
Burkholderia Cepacia Selective Agar USP (BCSAU) is a selective medium used for the recovery of Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc).
This medium is formulated according to the USP guidelines, for the determination of the absence of Bcc in pharmaceutical products, especially those for inhalation use or acquose preparations for oral, oromucosal, cutaneous, or nasal use.
Prepare the sample in Tryptic Soy Broth and incubate at 30-35°C for 48-72 h to enhance the recovery of Bcc. Subculture by streaking on a plate of BCSAU.
Incubate the plate aerobically at 30-35°C for 48-72 h.
Burkholderia cepacia colonies are typically translucent and rough and cause a red-orange to yellow color change of the medium.
